There is a site exhibition with remarkable Neolithic flint mines.
Four thousand years old and first excavated in the1870s with over 300 pits and shafts. One pit open to the public and a 30ft deep, 7 radiating gallery. The wearing of a safety helmet is compulsory in accordance with safety regulations. Go underground and experience at first hand the conditions of Stone Age man 5000 years ago. Descend over 10m to where the flint was mined for weapons and tools and wonder at the ingenuity and courage of our distant ancestors. The unusual landscape of Grimes Graves long confused experts with its series of gentle hollows and depressions - find out the whacky theories!!
