We present 3 operas during a short summer season:
Donizetti Don Pasquale
Mozart and Friends The Philosophers´ Stone
Rimsky-Korsakov May Night
Donizetti´s comic master piece Don Pasquale opens the Garsington Opera season on 10 June.
Two irresistible operas follow in the Garsington tradition of presenting highly enjoyable and little know works. May Night, the charming, richly comic Russian opera by Rimsky-Korsakov is full of real folk-tunes and wonderful orchestration, and is based on Gogol´s bewitching story of a summer´s night in a Cossack village in the Ukraine. The Philosophers´ Stone written the year before The Magic Flute, by Mozart `with a little help from his friends´ has inspired music and is an early example of the fast-paced, action-packed genre of magic fantasy stretching from The Arabian Nights through to JK Rowling´s Harry Potter series. Both these operas together with Don Pasquale, are part of the opera season that runs from 10 June to 11 July.
