Valley Gardens were first laid out 1880-1900 and along with the Pinewoods covers 17 acres.
It is an English Heritage Grade II listed garden. Leisure features are tennis courts, Pitch & Putt golf course, crazy golf, boating pool, paddling pool, children's play area. Games Pavilion sells some refreshments Easter-September.
Magnesia Tea Rooms also sells refreshments and snacks. Visit the area known as Bogs Field where 36 different mineral wells were discovered and walk along the Sun Colonnade to the Art Deco Sun Pavilion opened in 1933.
Exiting news for 2009!
Work to install a brand new play area begins at Valley Gardens from mid May 2009. The new area will bring even more attractions into the gardens. The play area will be completed by mid July, and will be open in time for the summer holidays.
During this time, this play area and the paddling pool will be closed so that the work can take place. Other play areas are located at:
Oatlands Recreation Ground on Hookstone Road,
Harlow Hill Play Area on Otley Road and
Luchon Way Play Area on Hampsthwaite Road.
There is also a paddling pool at Bebra Gardens, Brewerton Street, Knaresborough.
