Thought to be the remains of a Norman Episcopal Chapel.
Constructed by Bishop de Losinga (1091-1119) on the site of the former Anglo-Saxon cathedral. In the 14th century, the Bishop of Norwich, Hugh le Despencer converted the chapel to a fortified manor house. Ironically, it is this conversion work which ensured the survival of the early Norman ruins. It was later converted into a house and enclosed by earthworks in the late 14thC by the notorious Bishop of Norwich, Hugh de Despencer, who brutally supressed the Peasants Revolt of 1381. A place with an unusual story told by new graphic panels.
