The County town of Essex

 

Chelmsford has been the County town of Essex since 1250.

It has a long and proud history. The Borough´s history from Roman times to today is recorded in an imaginative and interactive way within the Chelmsford, Essex Regiment and Sandford Mill Museums, all of which are well worth a visit. Guglielmo Marconi established the world´s first radio factory in Chelmsford, making us proud to be the Birthplace of Radio.
