Strong traditional but welcoming communities based on the medieval villages and towns
The whole areas has long links with the sea and farming. Our residents are particularly proud that it is an area largely untroubled by crime. In recent decades it has become more prosperous as its qualities have attracted new businesses and a young and energetic population. The coast, estuaries and undeveloped rural areas provide an unrivalled range of active outdoor recreation opportunities especially for sailing, golf, fishing, cycling and walking.
The environment is dominated by coast. The unspoilt estuaries of the Rivers Blackwater and Crouch provide a wide range of habitats for bird and marine life. Brent geese and oysters symbolise the Blackwater, but many more native and over-wintering birds may be seen. Fishermen will also know that the estuary is the spawning ground for North Sea bass and has a unique species of herring.
The business opportunities are excellent. Very many successful modern growth industries have established or grown here in the past few decades. Clusters of high quality marine, food, leisure, and electronic industries have created new and well paid jobs.
