British Isles - FACTS & FIGURES

Medicines cannot be obtained in England without a prescription - chemists (pharmacies) can only supply a range of over-the-counter drugs. If you are taking any medication, explain to your doctor and get enough before you arrive in England.

Chemists are generally open standard business hours (8.30/9.00 am - 5.30/6 pm) although each town will have at least one open until as late as 10 pm - check a local paper for the times.

Doctors surgeries are open from 9 am until noon and then for a few hours in the afternoon or evening. If you need immediate treatment, all hospitals have Accident & Emergency departments.

In an emergency, dial 999.
