Although a fire in 1667 almost razed the town to the ground - Haverhill still has much to offer architectural enthusiasts, such as Anne of Cleaves House, a fine Grade II listed 17th C. building. The town is also of interest for its Victorian past - a local history collection and town hall.
East Town Park is ideal for countryside rambles, and is the starting point for a series of circular walks. It has a visitor centre and a children´s play area. In the main town centre, the Town Hall has been transformed into an Arts Centre that houses a theatre/cinema, local history centre, art gallery and bistro.
A market at Haverhill is mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086), and there was a medieval fortified manor owned by William de Haverhill, who was appointed as treasurer to Henry III in 1247.
