The historic building that is Melford Hall was built somewhere between 1554 and 1578 by William Cordell, Master of the Rolls to Queen Elizabeth I.
The home of the Hyde Parker family since 1786, Queen Elizabeth I was entertained here in 1578. There are regency, Georgian and Victorian interiors.
The Hall is full of maritime related paintings, fine collections of furniture and porcelain, and contains a collection of Beatrix Potter memorabilia.
Ethel, Lady Hyde Parker, grandmother of the present Baronet, was Beatrix Potter's cousin, and Beatrix visited regularly between 1900 and 1938.
Second hand bookshop and plant sales area (in gatehouse).
Park walk of 1 mile (begins at the car-park).
North Wing of house newly opened in 2006, along with re-decoration and intensive conservation works to the house.
