Havergate Island is a coastal lagoon type reserve situated 0.5 miles down river from the village of Orford. An important site for Avocets, Terns and other Waders. Good numbers of wildfowl during the winter months. During the summer months the island shows off a good variety of flora, Saltmarsh plants for example Sea Lavender.

Access via boat from Orford Quay. Open Jan-Mar, 1st Sat of every month; Apr-Aug, 1st and 3rd weekends and every Thu; Sep-Dec, 1st Sat of every month. Booking through RSPB MInsmere Visitor Centre. Charge for boat: adult £7, RSPB Members £5, children £3, RSPB Wildlife Explorers members £2.
