There were new organs installed in 1994 and 1996 and the cathedral is home to modern sculpture and tapestry. It is notable for the unity of it's perpendicular architecture. There are memorial windows to USAAF based in Essex 1942-5. This 15thC building is light, spacious and colourful. Of special interest is the 'Tree of Life' painting, a woven altar frontal and a magnificent 'Christus Rex' carved in oak.
Although we are a busy Cathedral, being a popular venue for concerts, lectures, civic events, school prize-giving and university graduation ceremonies, we are not tourist led. At the heart of the Cathedral is the daily rhythm of worship with beautifully sung choral services. Despite the hive of activity, the Cathedral is a calm and peaceful place to pray in.
This Cathedral has been a parish church for centuries and remains so.
