Ancient and modern combine here in a most unusual way. The Castle itself is Norman. But, curiously, there is a Victorian railway station inside the castle and the visitor centre is today housed in the old goods shed.

The remains of the old castle moat are now a series on ponds and there is also a charming nature trail along the old railway line. Contact the Ranger to find out more about the year round programme of events.
