Visitor Attraction Quality Assurance Service

Highly regarded nationally, firstsite is the leading contemporary visual arts organisation in Essex and one of Colchester´s key cultural attractions.

Currently based at the minories art gallery, an attractive Georgian townhouse, firstsite presents a diverse programme of innovative contemporary art exhibitions, projects and events across Colchester, Essex and on tour.

firstsite aims to make the visual arts an inspiring, enjoyable and involved experience. The programme engages with a range of art forms - from painting and craft to video and live art by regional, national and international artists. As well as fantastic art there is a shop, café and beautiful walled garden - perfect for socialising, relaxation and retail therapy!

Since its creation in 1993 firstsite has prospered. The innovation and vision of the organisation has enabled firstsite to achieve its goal, the creation of a new dedicated visual arts facility in Colchester, for East England and beyond. The new building, known as firstsite : newsite will replace the existing firstsite at the minories art gallery in 2007.
