Flag Fen is one of the most important Bronze Age sites in Europe. The area is unique in that quantities of organic material from the period, including wood and leather survived, pickled in the waterlogged fenland peat.

The scale of the Bronze-Age engineering operation at Flag Fen demonstrates the very sophisticated capabilities of people who lived in this part of Britain at that time. The museum at Flag Fen contains artefacts found on site, including the oldest wheel in England on permanent display. The museum also includes an assortment of finds from the latest excavations. Guided tours of the ongoing excavations at the site are available in the spring and summer.

The Heritage Centre and shop form the entrance to Flag Fen. It was built to environmental specification.

The Bronze-Age roundhouse is based on one excavated at Fengate in 1976. Houses of this general type would have been in use around 250BC.

The work at Flag Fen has given insight to the type of woodworking technology that existed some 3,000 year ago.

Flag Fen is a continuing research project and discoveries frequently made cause interpretations to change.
