A Norman motte with curtain walls constructed in the reign of Henry II. The gatehouse, known as The Castle, was re-built between 1463 and 1465 in the reign of Edward IV.There are attractive grounds with a river running through, formerly part of the moat system. There are free band concerts and tours of the gatehouse, on Sun in the months of May to Sep, 1400-1700. Disabled access is available to the gardens and ground floor.
