Hertford Castle

A Norman motte with curtain walls constructed in the reign of Henry II. The gatehouse, known as The Castle, was re-built between 1463 and 1465 in the reign of Edward IV.There are attractive grounds with a river running through, formerly part of the moat system. There are free band concerts and tours of the gatehouse, on Sun in the months of May to Sep, 1400-1700. Disabled access is available to the gardens and ground floor. Castle grounds open all year round, except Bank Hols. Only by arrangement within the castle gatehouse.Tours by arrangement through the Tourist Information Centre.

Admission free during events. Weekday/weekends dontations required.
