Simon Jenkins, in his "Englands Thousand Best Churches", writes, "A church for the connoisseur...it is a place of subtle proportion of the play of light on stone and wood...The exterior is supremely graceful...of inside there is hardly a disappointment...Finally, there is the tunnel [beneath the high altar]. It must form the handsomest covered street in England." Jenkins names St Peters as one of only 17 "five-star churches" in the whole country. Beginning on the first Saturday of June, running for five days, is the famous flower festival.
