Layer Marney Tower

A 1520 Tudor-brick gatehouse, 8-storeys high with Italianate terracotta cresting and windows. Gardens, park, medieval barn and also the nearby church.

The tallest Tudor gatehouse in the country, built by Henry the 1st Lord Marney, Lord Privy Seal to Henry VIII. Built in a flamboyant Italianate style with fine terracotta work, formal gardens and surrounding park. Visit the medieval barn which houses a display of farm machinery. Tea room, shop and children's play areas. Look out for the effigy tombs of Lord Marney and his son.
