Colchester Castle Museum

Unrivalled collections of national and international importance can be found here.

Built on the site of a Roman Temple (destroyed by Boudica), Colchester Castle was the largest ever built by the Normans. It then became a ruin, a library and a gaol for witches, Today Colchester Castle Museum is an award winning attraction and a great day out.

See history: some of the most important historical finds in Britain can be seen here.

Hear history: audio visual dramas explain Colchester´s involvement in some of the most important events in British history.

Touch history: try on a toga, catch up with medieval fashions and touch real Roman pottery.

Discover history: through a variety of events which take place during the school holidays.
