The museum is housed in the Ravelin block adjacent to Landguard Fort.
There are 14 display rooms covering local social military and nautical history including the fort, RAF stations, coastal forces, Roman Felixstowe, 17thC Dutch invasion, St Audrys Mental Hospital, east coast pleasure steamers, model room, naval room, growth of the town etc.
The major exhibition for 2007 commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands War, from the perspective of local Armed Services and Merchant Navy personal involved, centred on 25 oil paintings by a local veteran.
