Unique cluster of Grade II* elementary school buildings on a educational site dating from 1810, comprising of infants, girls and boys schools with houses for master and mistress. Includes the only monitorial school room in the world built (for 330 boys) to the designs of Joseph Lancaster in 1837. The very rare, purpose-built galleried classroom was opened in 1853. Both rooms, plus the 1905 Edwardian classrooms, are equipped to demonstrate lessons of their era. Family trail with activities and Victorian toys to play with. Museum room, tea room, shop.
After 1 Sep 2006, individual admission will be Adult £4, Child £1. Group admission will £5 (with Victorian lesson). Wheel chairs/ push chairs free, due to restricted access to parts of site.
