The Sandlings covers woods in Rendlesham, Tangham and Dunwich. The Sandlings forests have quite a diverse mix of conifer plantations interspersed with broadleaved areas, lowland heathland and wetland areas. Rendlesham forest covers approximately 1500 hectares. This forest is our main area for recreation and there are various picnic sites and recreation areas.
From Rendlesham Forest Centre there are 3 circular walks including disabled and visually impared trail, and forest cycle trails. There is a large picnic area and adventure playground. It is also the site of the international famous 1980 UFO sighting and a new UFO trail was launched in 2005.
